Kumoricon 2011

I went to my first con this summer!!!!!!! We had an amazing tie even though we didn’t really eat for three days and lived on junk food.  We will definitely be saving up for the con next year.  I cos played Amy Pond the first day from Doctor Who, and though there were a lot of Doctors and even a really awesome Cap’n Jack Harkness, no one knew who I was.

The rest of the time I was Ramona from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.  There were quite a few Ramona’s!  Though if I had only had the hammer I’m sure people would have asked for a photo.  Though I’m hoping it wasn’t because I’m a little chunky and I wasn’t “hot” enough because though I had fun I really felt down about myself when some girls run around literally in their underwear and slap a squirtal shell on the back and add a bubble gun and call it good.  Don’t get me wrong she looked good but I was a wee uncomfortable.  I expected the amount of nakedness but guess I wasn’t prepared for it.

My husband was Scott from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and he’s who I knit the wrist warmers for.  Next year he plans on papakura a War Machine from Iron Man.  As well as possibly putting together a script for the skit contest.  Putties and a Pink Power Ranger (for me)  and one of our other friend will be Rita.  If we pull it off it will be awesomeness!  I also want to get together my Rogue costume from X-Men.  I’ve bought all the fabric now I just need to sew the damn thing together!  All together we definitely plan on going again next year and maybe we might check out a few other cons like OryCon which is this areas Sci-Fi con.

Here are some pics!

My First Pattern!!!!!!

My husband and I are going to Kumoricon in September and he’s going as Scott Pilgrim and I’m going to do a cosplay of Ramona and Amy Pond from Doctor Who. Scott Pilgrim wears sweat bands that coordinate to the t-shirts that he wears so far I’ve done the green and white ones from the movie, half of the black and white ones, and the last pair I’m going to do is a black and orange one that I know my husband will love since he loves orange.

Ode to trying to have Good Ideas

Have you ever looked into a campfire and seen dancing fey among the flames?  And think that the wind is like music which sets the tempo for the flames to dance a sway too?  That’s what I think of when I look at fire, is the beauty and also the potential for danger.  Like most beautiful things in nature God has given them such beauty but also a little bit of thorn.  A common example is the rose.  Have you ever wondered if God did that to make us humble?

Anyway I digressed just a wee bit…..my night started out wonderful we took Elle out to the dog park for the first time and after being freaked for a bit she really started to have fun.  It was great watching her play and have a great time, I always kind of feel like those mothers at play grounds who watch their children with such diligence and pride when I look at my dogs.  Well at least Elle, Hans is a bit of a spaz, and we blame that on his father, I mean the husky.

So after Elle had started to tire out we went home promising to bring Hans tomorrow afternoon since it’s all fenced and he wouldn’t have a chance to escape.  We get home and start discussing what to have for dinner, now mind you we’re a little poor the week before payday and our options are about 5 different ways to cook hot dogs, and no I am not joking.  My husband, Scott gets this great idea of cooking them over the bonfire and using the new hot dog stick my parents just gave us.  Great!

So as we’re setting up I get this great idea, or so I thought at the time, that we could set up the tent and do a little “camping”  in the backyard since we won’t be able to for real.  Now here is where the evening turned south, way south.

Where we live they didn’t use very clean fill to level the property, and so most of our soil is rocks upon rocks.  Scott tried to put in tent stakes to no avail and while I love my husband, patience is not his strong suit in anyway, shape, or form.  If something starts to not works he gets pretty well…. pissed.  Which for me signals the primitive part of my brain that says “run, hide, and be very, very quiet.”

I totally can not help this response to any sort of anger.  I will immediately assume it is all my fault and that I must take the wrath that will be directed in my direction….because I deserve it.

Why do you ask?  Because I don’t know how to handle anger when it’s not my own.  When it’s mine it get’s bottled and slowly seeped out, unless you’ve really, royally pissed be off then your getting the broken steam gasket full in the face.

Now don’t get me wrong Scott is a wonderful husband until you ask him to do something that requires trusting and relying on something mechanical to work, like the drill for hanging anything up.  I ask those requests as infrequently and sweetly as possible.

To get to the moral of the story, because ever story has to have a moral!  I think I’m  just going to stop coming up with these seemingly great plans in my head but when I try to execute them they always blow up in my face.  Which is why ladies and gentlemen I rearrange all my furniture by myself unless I can’t help it.

New Puppy…

I was talking to an old friend about my new puppy and all my other pets, my house is a literal zoo.  I have two dogs one is almost a year old named Hans and he’s German Shepard and Husky.  Then there’s Elle who is German Shepard and we were told Kesshond (a giant Pomeranian).  She’s almost 3 months old and going on 10 or 15 lbs.  She’s a little tubo.  Then there is Jiji our kitty who is almost a year old in a couple months on April’s Fools day.  Then we have Jayne who is the outdoor mouse catcher.  Jiji was named for the cat in Kiki’s Delivery Service and Jayne was named for Jayne in Firefly.  And our second to newest pet, Nagini and yes she’s a snake.  A baby ball python, she’s actually quite beautiful though she still kinda freaks me out to hold her but I’ll pet her.

My Swap Package!

I finally was able to get up pictures for you all to see the loveliness that Andromeda sent me this time of HSKS.  See did a Ravenclaw Diadem  kit with just a few hints of Nagini.  PS the awesome hat she crocheted me, I’ve been wearing all day!  I love it!

I do hope that the Nagini was meant as a cup cozy if not can you tell me what it was suppose to be! I love everything thanks SO much!

Owl’s Away….

Well my package is sent and I kinda feel like maybe it wasn’t big enough….I really hope she likes everything…..I usually buy a lot of things to make things out of them like the beads for stitch markers.  So I really hope she doesn’t feel like she was jipped in any way because some of the kits are rather large this time, and well I’m worried, can you tell?

I’m not sure whether or not I’ll do this swap again, find a new swap, or possibly give swaps a wee bit of a rest for a little bit.  With school this quarter and hopefully me getting into a CNA class to get my certificate and working on top of everything I think I might be just a tad too busy.

Almost Done….

All I have left to do with my kit is two little things to finish it off and then off the owl should fly!  I’m sure most of you have seen the movie but don’t tell me!  Because I haven’t yet I’m waiting till I can use the free tickets I won at work.  I can’t wait to go see it!

The Good and the Bad….

So I guess the bad news first, I feel like I’m totally screwing up in class.  If you have an opportunity to take a strictly online class, don’t.  I hate everything about it other then the gas money it saves me from driving to campus.  I’m not retaining the information, I have no clear idea what my professor expects and because of this I’m doing very poorly.  School use to be so easy for me and University was pretty easy too, why am I having such trouble at a junior college?  Have I just lost all confidence in my abilities to succeed at school, or am I just afraid to move on in my journey????

Now for the good news!  I have a craft room!  The boss decided to let us have the extra room that he used for an office, but he’s never here so he let us have it as part of the apartment.  eventually it’ll also have the in-laws old treadmill too but not yet.  We’re also going to use it as a game room/dining room since we don’t have anyplace to put a table,so it’ll be nice to have someplace to eat a nice meal together instead of in front of the tv on trays.  But here’s a picture of the craft corner!
